Profile Spirit was an American jazz/hard rock/progressive rock/psychedelic band founded in 1967, based in Los Angeles, California. Their most commercially successful single in the US was “I Got A Line On You”, but they were at least as well known for their albums including The Family That Plays Together, Clear, and Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. The overall feel on this disc is more stripped down rock and roll. It has a bit of an 80’s hangover as some of the music has a “new digital” hollowness to it. Ahhh, but California didn’t go crazy with synths and overproduction like he did on Rapture In The Chambers.

“Borderline” is an excellent starter of Ed Cassidy’s drums and Randy’s guitar and does not stop. “Zandu” is one of Randy’s best tunes period. “Logical Answers” is a fun tune with a great back story told on one of the live sets. “Stuttgart Says Good-bye” has a great “Spirit” sound. “Love From Here” really sticks in your head. Mike Nile also adds to this with the great “Tent Of Miracles” and “Old Black Magic” and others. From start to finish, I’d say this was a return to more of the rock and roll/blues sound with great stuff by all and great songwriting as well. If your a Spirit fan, you’ll like this CD. Not their best work, but definitely worth owning.
