Trishula – Scare To Breathe [2019]

STYLE: MELODIC HARD ROCK / AOR

RATING: 4 / 5

“Scare to Breathe” is the debut album by UK melodic hard rock/ aor group Trishula. Trishula is the brain child of guitarist Neil Fraser who also handles bass and keys, joins forces with vocalist Jason Morgan and drummer Joao Colaco, both of whom Neil worked with in Rage Of Angels. Magnum’s keyboard player Rick Benton is also involved.

Any way you look at it Trishula is melodic hard rock without compromise, the leading instrument -aside of the vocals- is the guitar which brings to front thick-yet harmonious-riffs, incredible melodic lines and blistering solos effectively stealing the show on most songs on “Scare to Breathe”. The album is all about intense melodic hard rock materializing in razor sharp riffs, a good dose of melodic keyboards, flamboyant rhythm section and unforgettable choruses. Take the opening song “I Can See It In Your Eyes”, a power melodic rocker built on great performances, a classic-as-it-gets chorus, coming out totally unforced and natural. “Secrets & Lies” is probably the most Adult oriented rocker to be found on “Scare to Breathe” while the instrumental composition is a true testament to melodic guitar phrasing uncovering a great deal of Fraser’s talent. Finally, there is “Homeland”, an ambitious melodic hard rock epic where Morgan lays a stellar performance delivering the song in a totally rhetorical fashion.

Overall Trishula’s debut album is a well-planned, well arranged and well performed aor/melodic hard rock album, that should prove a great buy for anyone enjoying this kind of music and bands like Ten, Heartland, Newman or FM.
