One Track Mind – Lifeline [1995]

Holy cow! This is maybe one of the best indie releases I heard for years! I found this one by chance and didn’t expected such great songs… But after listening to the opener “Speed” that comes along with great keys, tasty keyboards, brilliant arrangements, big backing vocals and a super catchy hookline, it blew me out of my socks… this song sounds exactly like a mix of Toto and Broken Wings.

And it goes on with an even better song! “All I Want” is a real killer with a great chorus and a superb bridge! Could have been taken from the Beyond the Blue album and there are again many influences from Toto at their “Fahrenheit”-era. After a heartfelt nice ballad, “House Of Love” brings us back into pure AOR with some cool guitar riffs and a sound that brings Seasons in Color meets Random Axis to my mind and the well arranged “Next Illumination” transforms you right back into the 80#s into the session room of Channel 5. Another highlight is the AOR / Westcoast mixed “Please Tell me Who I Am” that starts with cool Westcoast feeling and leads into a huge AOR chorus in the vein of Lake.

“Lifeline”, the only album of the Dutch duo ONE TRACK MIND seems to be one of the best hidden secrets out there. Be prepared for a high quality private release with great harmony and backing vocals, simply brilliant arrangements, amazing songs and a top musicianship.
