Deep Purple – Infinite [2017]

Legendary hard rockers Deep Purple return with their twentieth album titled InFinite featuring a very high quality collection of accomplished songs with a progressive edge. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pink Floyd), InFinite is a well recorded and crisp sounding album with amazing performances from each band member including a really strong vocal performance from Ian Gillan too.

What more can you say about a band that has been through everything from lineup changes to the death of founding members and who still continue to produce such fresh and satisfying albums through so many decades. The entire band sounds great but I must mention the brilliant guitar playing by Steve Morse and the really exciting textures added by Don Airey on keys who both bring so much vitality to these songs. The entire album is so strong but some selected highlights include the excellent riffs and melodic guitar solo of “Hip Boots”, the epic musical interlude of “All I Got Is You”, the dark progressive sounds of “The Surprising” that really has a strong Dream Theater-like vibe, and the killer groove of “Birds Of Prey” that explodes into a keyboard and guitar driven solo section before returning to the narrative vocals.

They even close out the set with a stomping version of “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors. After listening to this album multiple times I continue to be impressed with the entire vibe of the music and mesmerized by the quality of the musical performances which just makes each listen better than the last – a sure sign of a great album. Well done Deep Purple you guys rock!
