Profile Guillermo Marchena born in Willemstad, CuraƧao, a well known Dutch drummer and pop singer. He played drums in various rock bands in his home country before he moved to Amsterdam where he mainly performed with bands in the city’s clubs. In 1974 he went to Munich and played for a while with Klaus Doldingers band Passport. Together with Freddie Santiago, who comes from Puerto Rico, he was a founding member of Sigi Schwabs Percussion Academia in 1978.
After several other projects – among other things, Marchena was also the singer of the hard rock band Maniacs – he recorded the key song “My Love Is a Tango” with Marchena as a singer. The song rose to number 1 in the German single charts in January 1988 and stayed there for two weeks – the single sold around 600,000 copies. The successor single “Time for Lovers” only reached number 46 on the German airplay charts in April 1988. He remained loyal to Sigi Schwab until 1994, when the singer became seriously ill.
