“Eruption” is the band formed between lead guitarist Santi Rigolizio and singer Darren Grant with drummer Lee Colledge and bass player Ben White completing the line up. “All screwed up” is their debut released in mid 2009. I suppose, the word “Eruption” in rock terminology has become the most direct reference to the Van Halen heritage. On that count, the band sounds quite a bit like Van Halen, or more accurately like the David Lee Roth band (Vai era)mixed with “MR Big”.

It has to be said that Santi is a very competent guitarist who seems to have studied the sound of the bands mentioned above in order to compose material in the vein of these rather peculiar artists; and to a very good extent he succeeds. Of course the DLR sound was not built solely on technique but also on rock star attitude, sly wit and overall extravaganza; Elements particularly hard to recreate and therefore are absent on this release.
Never the less, the material on “All screwed up” is pretty relevant with standout tracks including “Temple of Love”, “Bad girls”, “Natural high” and “Purify”.

Above all the album deserves a rock fan’s attention simply because the musicians choose to adopt/present a very popular style of 80s rock which has not been re explored much since that time. On this basis “Eruption – all screwed up” completes a gap in the rock market and therefore should by all means satisfy fans of Van Halen, David Lee Roth and “Mr Big”.
