Love Razors was formed in the fall of 1986 after singer Sten Sarracino left his then current band, Damn Yankees (Los Angeles local band of no relation to the Ted Nugent band). After recruiting his brother Tom on guitar, and Jamie Simone on drums, Sten asked bassist Fritz Schweigert to join on a temporary basis while they began to rehearse. Each member brought a diverse musical background, which helped shape the sound that would eventually become synonymous with the band.

After rehearsing for a few weeks, the band played their debut show at Madame Wong’s West in Santa Monica, CA. Even though most of the songs played that night were reworked versions of songs the members had played in previous bands Cheapster and Suburban Angels, the show was a success and was enough to convince the band they had found the right lineup to push forward.

Within a short period of time, the Love Razors had become one of LA’s top acts. During this time, former Blondie bassist, Nigel Harrison, became their manager and mentor, further cementing their status as an act to keep an eye on. The band began receiving opening slots around LA and Orange County, as well as San Diego tour dates with Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, and Mission UK (formerly Sisters of Mercy). The band became staples of the LA rock scene, playing regular shows at venues such as Club Scream, White Trash, and the now legendary Coconut Teaszer, where they became a virtual house band for two or three years. When not playing in L.A., the Razors played during this same period at the Stone and Nightbreak clubs in San Francisco, Annie Oakley’s in Las Vegas, the Bacchanal in San Diego, and the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano as well as the Ventura Theater in Ventura California.

As the music scene began to change, it became increasingly difficult for record companies to know how to define the band’s sound and image. This ultimately left the band with no record deal, and the realization that it might never come. Guitarist Tom left the band in 1990, which led to the end of the band. Love Razors did reunite for one show in 1991 during their annual Christmas Party at the former Sunset Club in Sierra Madre California.

Finally, after some 25+ years, the Love Razors are back and are finally able to share their music with the world. The debut album, Hollywood Underground, is a collection of songs that shows the band in their prime, now remastered and taken from the best sources available. It is a story of a band that struggled to fit in with an ever changing music scene, and rise from the “underground” to leave their mark, while managing to establish a large cult following of dedicated fans in the process.
