PROFILE

“Spin Gallery” is the AOR project of renowned producer-guitarist Tommy Denander and lead singer Kristoffer Lagerstrom. Before moving to the technical aspects of the project let’s put across that “Embrace” has major radio quality due to its smooth sound and modern musical approach.

The release is based overall on mid tempo tracks which allow Lagerstom to unfold his very particular singing style; On the other hand, one has to admit that the guitar is nowhere as upfront, often overshadowed by the rhythmic piano which is present in most songs (the modern approach mentioned previously). As you move along the tracks one comes across more and more drum loops, and modern synthesizer effects (on certain songs replacing the drums).

Of course all this is very much planned in order to deliver this modern-unconventional AOR sound to “Spin Gallery” and it could very likely find its way on Club/Disco play lists as a fair part of the material sounds very groovy (due to these modern aspects). I would insist on the rockier, more organic material of the album, namely “Embrace”, “Brilliance of the Drugs” and “Eyes wide open” which, I suppose, for old school AOR fans would be the highlights of this release (also demonstrating lengthy guitar solos from Denander).

If you are interested in unconventional/experimental AOR that integrates modern musical elements you should try this “Spin Gallery” album; on the other hand, if are looking for the latest in classic/old school AOR you could try “On the rise-Dream zone” amongst other releases.
