Hardreams – Unbroken Promises [2013]

HARDREAMS_UPThe Melodic Rockers HARDREAMS from Barcelona formed in 2000 and they are among the most prolific artists on the planet, having so far published two studio albums “Calling Everywhere” (2004) and “The Road Goes On ..” (2008).  The country of origin is certainly not the European center of Hard Rock, but assist in the best possible flow of the music industry with few, but remarkable releases. “Unbroken Promises” is the band’s third album release  in January 15, 2013 , through the American label  Perris Records, found the band with a harder edge into their sound with amazing results, offering 11 songs composed and carefully arranged for our enjoyment.

The catchy opening song “Count On Me” with great vocals and keyboards overall has a the typically European AOR style and is a great way to start the record, followed by the punchy rocker “A High Mountain To Climb”  where we can hear how the band’s sound has changed with aggressive and fast hooks and an inspired melody. The mid tempo “It’s Only Love” is an 80’s heavenly influenced AOR tune full of harmonies with great and warm vocals from Manu while the ballad “Now You’re Mine” will not disappoint you, where acoustic and electric guitars blend perfectly with the piano and synths to create an emotive slow melody. The rockin’ tunes continues with the album’s title song “Unbroken Promises” as it has a chorus line to die for, reminds the Sweden band Bad Habit in their early works, “Cross The Line” with an aggressive start type almost progressive metal in the vein of Symphony X but which developed into a huge anthem with one spectacular solo both by David on guitars and Sergi on keyboards, and “All And Now” a pleasant slow bluesy song which can make inroads into the hearts of many female closing the record.

Overall, a very good return on the scene for the Catalan quintet who did a great job in composition phase with passionate performances, excellent musicianship and incredible memorable songs. The interesting structure deserves attention for another reason: The album it ‘s not a big company’s product (Frontiers, Escape) showing us the authenticity of these guys who fight with their own weapons to accomplish what others manage to achieve in one day and Perris Records  did a great work on that. If you never heard Hardreams, this is a very classy act in style and approach, and if you are a sucker for quality Melodic (Hard) Rock / AOR, “Unbroken Promises” is a mandatory listening. I hope their new album to provide a benchmark for their subsequent career….
