Stray Bullets – Shut Up [2018]

“Shut Up” is the brand-new debut album by Italian Sleaze/Hard Rock band Stray Bullets. It all begins back in 2007 when this hard-rock combo from Verona started to write the first songs together, in order to move their first steps for the making of their first studio album. It took three years to record and self-release “Lost Soul Town”, an album with ten tracks entirely played and recorded by the band as a home-made recording.

In the following years, Stray Bullets faced a series of line-up changes, which accidentally led them to focus their proposal on a more sleaze-oriented rock style. The eleven tracks of “Shut Up”, which includes most of the songs taken from “Lost Soul Town”, now re-written and re-arranged according to the soul and style of the new line-up.

Let’s put across that Stray Bullets lacks by no means, in comparison to the leading modern Sleaze/Hard Rock bands of USA or Scandinavia. In fact, the new group combines a fair amount of aggression with melody into a very appealing result for fans of hard rock and sleaze rock. The band consist of lead singer Alex, guitarists Male and Nick, Duff on bass duties and Zen on drums.

One finds rather refreshing that “Shut Up” is by no means an overproduced album. Essentially their song-writing is built on old school melodies and riffs, modern sounding rhythm parts to once again conclude on classic sounding choruses. The rhythm section is rather unpolished, still thick sounding, being far more inventive than what one would expect. The vocals are also a mixture of different subgenre, a bit melodic, a bit glamorous and a bit sleazy, borrowing elements from all three styles while always putting forward large choruses. One has to hand it to the guys, they have the instrumental technique to come up with plenty guitar melodies and riffs as well as going through a multitude of rhythm patterns.

Favorite tracks include “Lost Soul Town”, “Hurts”, “Candy”, “Sex Pot” and “Blackout”. Overall Stray Bullets will probably satisfy to the fullest fans of 80’s hard rock and sleaze rock while its robust production will make this debut an undeniable party rock album for anyone willing to give the Stray Bullets’ debut a chance.
