Max Navarro – Somewhere South of Heaven [2015]

4g4rtg54rAfter three years of waiting Max Navarro is back with a brand new album, his first album after the departure of drummer Simon Morettin, passed in 2012 to Elvenking, and bassist Jack Novell, replaced by Alex Parpinel and Danny Policella. The new album released by the newborn label of AW Recording having an amazing production make you feel the good work behind.

I’m the kind of person that usually has to break an album in a few times before I can fully enjoy it. It usually has to grow on me for a while. Navarro he managed to grab my attention from the first listening and worth your attention. The musicianship and general sound of the recording is warm in the analogue sense.

This album will have you singing the songs as you walk down the street as the ride starts with “Nine Flares”, a very catchy tune with sticky choir and awesome riffs. The album sounds heavily influenced by the American scene of the eighties, where the nine tracks run one after the other without major upheavals but extremely enjoyable. All The songs here are top notch. The chord progressions and lead guitar parts on “Sick Sentimental Plan” sound nearly identical. “Stay” is easily the best song on the album, with its great lyrics, and Navarro’s great vocal delivery, and that guitar solo oh, that guitar solo will hooked you up immediately…

It could be argued but “Somewhere South of Heaven,” is Navarro’s finest work so far, as the album picks itself up and plows right on through to the end with blow-em-away vocals, catchy tunes and electrified guitar parts. I would recommend this album to anyone looking for a refreshingly unique and innovative listening experience.
