Hurry and put the kilts away and get ready for some ass-kicking hard rockin’ tunes from New Zealand… yeah New Zealand, a country with no a big background for this US Hard Rock style. Formed back in 2008 by lead vocalist/lead guitarist Siggy Signal, with CC Xander (bass/vocals) and Isaac “Rikki” Proctor (drums/vocals) filling out the ranks, trying to reveal the sound of the glory 80’s hard rock scene in the vain of bands such as Motley Crue, Winger, Ratt and Bon Jovi.

After performing regular gigs around Christchurch and the South Island, MISTRESS soon made a name for themselves with their energetic and high powered live performances and skilled musicianship therefore forming a solid and dedicated following throughout the local live music scene. 2009 saw the release of their first EP which through Myspace caught the attention of legendary US producer Beau Hill (Ratt, Winger, Twisted Sister & Alice Cooper) who in turn remixed two tracks from the EP and one of those songs “She’s A Sinner” was featured on 272 records heavy metal compilation cd “Kill City 20” in 2010. In 2013, the band released its debut album which was entitled “Loveteaser” and started to promote it.

The album contain nine tracks which come along with good approaches like the opener”Rock it Tonight” which musically reminds Def Leppard with a very affective chorus and complete with a big guitar solo as for the next track and album’s title “Loveteaser” the comparison with White Lion are quite obvious opening with a great opening riff, that will bring you memories back from the glory days on the Sunset Strip in the 1980’s. The very melodic “Don’t Stop Now” is an another example of the band’s potential with a really strong chorus and nice keys. The surprices don’t stop here as the rockin’ “To the Top” a cross between L.A. Guns and Winger with a solid chorus and the fast paced rocker “Live it Up” will definetely leave you satisfy, especially the last one as is one of those songs that need to be play loud, with exceptional vocals from Siggy and a powerful and memorable chorus at the same time. We also need to mention the last track “She’s a Sinner” which mixed by Beau Hill having a heavier approach and gives on each instrument more space than before.

My only objection with this record is the poor production as it sounds like a demo recording from the mid 80s. Indeed this not prevent the band to prove that they have the quality and the potential to get improved in the near future and revive the 80s sound that we all love. The album rocks having some really good moments and ideas, with a lot of melody and catchy earing riffs with strong songwriting while Siggy’s voice fits perfectly in that music style. I totally enjoy this album and if you are a lover of the golden era of the 80s and the bands I mention above check these guys….worth the try!!!
