Lisa Hartman – ‘Til My Heart Stops [1988]

LISAHARTMAN_TMHS

PERFECT! WONDERFUL! AMAZING! Are just some of the words that can describe this album. A super slice of female 80s AOR and one of the best (if not the best) produced records in this style ever. “’Til My Heart Stops” was the fourth and her last work, released in 1988 that meant to be her very best recording. Lisa and a host of session musicians offer us an awesome AOR album with catchy and beautiful melodic tunes, strong vocals, lots of feeling and a brilliant production by not other than Bill Wray.

The opening keyboard lines of the first track “Tempt Me If (You Want To)” written by Jude Cole, Bill Wray and Lisa are to die for. The guitar work is outstanding thanks to the great work of master Michael Landau with a killer chorus and a power performance from Lisa. The song was later included in the soundtrack of Navy Seals (1990). The slight ballady “I Don’t Need Love” complete with guitar solos, beautiful keyboard tune and a growling Lisa bridge. A terrific commercial mid tempo followed by the radiable “Ooh, I’m Satisfied”, an amazing melodic tune with great chorus, the incredible interpretation of Lisa and a harmony rhythm that you will love for the emotions and sentiment which produces. Then another gem and personal favorite “I Can’t Get You Out Of My System” comes to rouse us with its incredible melody. Excellent and melodic vocals, a powerful and catchy chorus with great guitars, extra compressed drums and spacey keys will travel you back to college days.

A magical song you will definetelly love and play it again and again. In bitter-ish “Tender Kiss” there’s a bizarre keyboards ornament with a monster rhythm guitar work and one of the most seasoned performances by Lisa, while “The Dress” is another winner, a charming soft melodic rocker penned by cult aorster James House in which she tries to get her man back by declaring she could wear the dress he used to love. “How Many Rivers” is slow and climatic with a great bridge before the short guitar solo, penned by Luba and Bill Wray. “Imagination” sound slightly aged for the time but with a quite pleased melody and “’Til My Heart Stops Beating” closing the album, an epic ballad with drums and guitars, with a heart felt gut wrenching performance by Lisa ready for FM stations and probably one of her best sung songs.

Call it rock and pop, lite AOR, melodic synth rock, but definitely it’s eighties AOR, classy, with really modern production-wise and still sound magnificent today. If you like female melodic AOR singers don’t doubt, this is true jewel.
