Last Autumn’s Dream – Nine Lives [2012]

LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM do not stop, after “A Touch of Heaven” and “Yes” released less than a year ago, are back with a new fresh work under the arm entitled “Nine Lives”. They have never released a bad album till now… and all of their albums always offer some fine melodic and catchy rock tunes that please every rocker…

With a line up consisting of nothing more than Andy Malecek (Fair Warning) on guitar, drummer Jamie Borger (Talisman, Treat), vocalist and keyboardist Mikael Erlandsson and bassist Nalle Pahlsson (Treat, Zan Clan, Therion ), this training is one of the most important within the European AOR. Erlandsson and Malecek have made an exceptional songwriting duo and they always deliver qualitative and wonderful music. These guys actually can’t stop writing and playing music in any case! They do not care for big labels, ads neither for a good promotion… they have their music and a strong fan base all these years… and they only focus on their music… and that’s truly great!

“Nine Lives”, as the title says, is the 9th work of the band… and they just picked up from where they left… as it happens with every new album… no need to be a magician to find out what these guys are up to. The album starts with “In A Perfect World”, a classic rocker with a huge melody and a catchy as hell chorus line! “Nine Lives” has an inspired riff, a very good harmony and Mikael Erlandsson passionate performances. The chorus is once again memorable. “Is This Just Another Heartache” features some more ‘modern’ AOR elements and it’s the album’s, so far, most commercial tune! In “Merry-Go-Round” we have a catchy rocker while “Golden Cage” is the highlight here! An awesome melodic hard rocker with an amazing melody that sticks in your mind from the start and makes you wanna whistle it for days! Perfect! “All I Can Think Of” is another commercial track with a nice rhythm. “Megalomania” and “The Last To Know” are both superb melodic pieces with catchy chorus lines and solid guitar work. “Angel Eyes” is heavier and features Andy Malecek’s superb guitar skills!, with a chorus to die for. “We Never Said Goodbye” is a mid-tempo romantic rocker with a relaxing melody. The record closing with “Don’t Let Love Fade Away”, a huge ballad! A very emotional track and Mikael Erlandsson really shines on here.

In conclusion, we are talking of eleven high-level compositions with a sober understanding and a production that makes every match like a charm. So if you’re already a fan of these geniuses of AOR / melodic rock in general, this paper recovers more positive path after a couple of previous work that perhaps were below the high expectations that always has to LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM .
