JoyFocus – Random Access Digital Audio Heresy [2015]

A two-piece band who come from Chicago, Illinois, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Rikk Currence and vocalist Holly Joy, which gaining highly success since their debut in 2001. Their 2013 release of the EP “Mission Critical Extended Play List” shows their mastery of for direct lyrics and riffing with little to no ambiguity. The sound of JoyFocus continues to evolve on this release, gaining maturity as the albums roll by. 

The band deserve your attention not only cause of the great anime artwork of their albums but also for the quality of their songs that will take you on a wild ride through soaring melodies with intense lyrics, massive vocals, loud guitars and a singer in the stratosphere who sings as high as Pat Benatar with some country feel vibes reminds Shania Twain. They have an incredible talent and their music always cheers you up if you’ve had a bad day. It’s all about fresh, clear, loud, energetic, melodic, powerful, musical force in the air whenever played.

JoyFocus 1The album contain 8-tracks display beat-driven rock that shines through every instrument starts out with one of the best song of the album “Retreat”, a classic American pop-rock sound surrounds it while impressive guitars ring free to the catchy melody. The album stays strong with the next track of “Gone”. The guitar riffs are clever and the Holly’s distinctive vocals make this a pleasure to listen to. The last track “Home” is another winner, a bittersweet ballad full of nostalgia with melodic vocals having a slow crying cello in the background among with violin, a touchy chorus and great songwriting. All the songs of the album are unique, enjoyable well-arranged and produced and it’s obvious that JoyFocus has a certain spark or chemistry that turns the connection of notes and words into something more than just the song.

Listeners will be sure to enjoy the great mixture of instrumentals and vocals that this record provides. All of the best influences from “Eurythmics”, “The Cars”, “Roxette”, “Queen”, “Boston” and “The Outfield” can be heard shining though on this masterpiece! On top of all that, since their debut album they managed to develop their own signature style that is unmistakable even to this day.
