Profile Danish 80’s to 90’s pop/rock band. Originally founded by Aske Jacoby in 1979 as Aske Jacoby Band the band later changed the name to News. After recording two albums “Stereo Magasin” in 1981 and “Sæt Sejl” in 1982, Aske Jacoby and frontsinger Gitte Naur left the group. Gitte Naur was replaced by Søs Fenger who in 1988 was replaced by Nadia Stein.

Throughout the 80’s News were playing excellent female fronted AOR / Pop in the vein of One Two, Yo Yo or Halberg Larsen. Ther self titled 1986 album is certainly their most AORish album with production handled by the great Poul Halberg of Halberg Larsen fame. Although not added in the credits I could swear he added some additional guitar parts here and there on this record as songs like the catchy opener “Flik Flak” or ” Bolgelængde” feature his typical Lukather-like AOR licks. “Flik Flak” sounds like a FF-version of DE 5 actually. Like the first One Two albums or DE 5 this is sung in Danish but there even is an English track featured with the epic album closer “Beautiful Day”.

This was the last News album with front woman Søs Fenger who later pursued a highly successful solo career in Denmark. The group after a career of nine albums disbanded in 1994 after being a major part of what is often referred to as a golden age for danish languaged “innocent” pop, from the mid 80’s to early 90’s.
