Call It Anything – Call It Anything [1989]

PhotobucketCOUNTRY: Germany          STYLE: AOR

RATING: 86/100

Call It Anything is a duo from Germany who won a newcomer competition in the late 80’s. T his is their only album, released by the small indie label “Marie Records”. Expect late 80’s sounding HI-Tech AOR with awesome keyboards, memorable hooklines all over the place, good guitar work and a fantastic female singer. Just imagine a mixture of Park Cafe, Zahalan, Queen Of Spades and Lisa Lagoda, take their best songs together and you know how good Call It AnythingG sounds like.

Starting with a fantastic opener “Inside My Own Body” that totally sounds like Queen Of Spades to some more killer tracks like the Zahalan-like “Games” (and believe me, this one as good as the best Zahalan songs) or the Westcoast-ish “Look Into Your Eyes” with great keyboards and cool saxofon fills or the super catchy “Colours” in the vein of Lisa Lagoda – there’s no weak track to be found. “Roundabout” is a sligtly quirky Hi-Tech song with coool keyboards, while “Never” shows up with rocking guitars (and brilliant guitar fills) and again a super chorus in the vein of Gaia meets Zahalan Female singer Barbara Windberg has a great smoky voice that fits perfectly to the Hi-Tech AOR songs!
